Veterans tried their hand at ring toss, bowls and a variety of other activities when Bolton Clarke’s Fairview retirement community held its annual day of mischief on 24 October.
This year, the day fell during Veterans Health Week (21-29 October), with a focus on physical activity to help Veterans, war widows and the ex-services community stay active to maintain physical and mental health and wellbeing.
“This is a great way to get out of the house, socialise and keep moving at the same time,” said resident Brenda.
“We have been playing ring toss all morning – laughing at our throwing skills and having a good old chat. Without realising it I have also been moving around quite a bit and it’s a great way to improve hand eye coordination.”
Retirement Village Manager Kathy Cook organised the event and said residents had been keen to get involved.
“I’m so happy that so many people were receptive to the idea. We treated residents to games of croquet, bocce, ring toss, cards and dominoes,” she said.
“The idea was to keep everyone moving and interested in trying new activities for the whole morning.”
