St John’s Rise Retirement Village has taken home bragging rights after winning the inaugural Benetas Retirement Living Bowls Challenge at Mooroolbark Bowls Club. Benetas Bridgewater Lake (Roxburgh Park), Dalkeith Heights (Traralgon) and St John’s Rise (Mooroolbark) sent their best bowlers to the crackerjack event on Thursday, 9 May.
Each retirement community was represented by nine players, divided into three teams. Supporters from each village attended, cheering for their neighbours from the sidelines.
The annual event will be hosted by each of the three communities in coming years.
Benetas General Manager Strategy, Infrastructure and Housing Bruce Webb said the event lived up to all expectations, setting the stage for a spirited rivalry moving forward.
“I’m feeling pretty confident in saying this will be the main event for Benetas’ sporting community this year. It’s fantastic to see our residents connecting across our communities,” Mr Webb said.
“Congratulations to the St John’s Rise team. While there can be only one winner, we are very proud of all the residents who participated in the event.”
St John’s Rise resident Bob Milligan said the event was a huge success, played in great spirts under perfect weather conditions.
“It was great to meet other Benetas residents who all love living in their village,” Mr Milligan said.
“We were also treated to a gourmet lunch with the homemade lamingtons being a highlight.”
